Information for Students

We, at Hawaii Institute of Hair Design have been working weeks to provide you, our students, with this grant that has recently been made available to us.
We understand that some of you are having problems with keeping up with necessary expenses such as rent, food, etc. We applied for the government to help so that we can help you with your bills. Don’t expect too much. To see if you are eligible for extra funds, please fill in the form below in order to justify petitioning the grant for a student affected by the Covid-19.
Please go through this questionnaire and answer truthfully so that we can determine your eligibility to these funds.
  • Are you qualified for Federal Financial Aid and receiving Pell Grants and/or Direct Loans from our school? YES/NO

HEERF GRANT DISCLOSURE

STUDENT PORTION
  1. Hawaii Institute of Hair Design signed and returned to ED the Certification and Agreement and assures that the school has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  2. The total amount of funds that were received on 05/27/2020 from ED pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students is $81,921.00 (this includes student portion only).
  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the 30-day Report, June 26, 2020 is $70,100.00. The balance of $11,821.00 was distributed to students by 09/30/2020. To date, only one student did not deposit 1 check leaving $64.00 outstanding.
  4. The estimated total number of students at the School eligible that will be eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 51 students.
  5. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to 06/26/2020 is 49 students.
  6. To be eligible for receiving the Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, students must meet the requirements of qualifying to receive financial aid, be actively attending school or on a leave of absence after March 13, 2020 and have unexpected expenses related to the corona virus outbreak. Students enrolled in the Barber Styling Program who were unable to complete on time due to school closure and inability to secure required clinical experiences resulting in a program extension beyond the established program end date. Utilizing the Title IV financial aid budget, these students were allocated a predetermined amount to apply to costs including food, housing, child care, and technology for the additional weeks of the extension.
    The School determined how much each student will be awarded based on student records on file demonstrating: highest need $1400.00, lower need $900.00, lowest need $800.00, additional greater need expressed in survey responses plus $600.00.
